Prompt: McCandless set out to live independently in the wilderness, but his death reveals the harsh reality of nature and survival. In your blog post, analyze how his desire for independence contributed to his death. Then, connect this idea to your own life by explaining a time when you wanted complete independence or control over a situation. Did things go as planned, or did you face unexpected challenges?

Prompt Response: Chris McCandless's desire for independence ultimately lead to his death because it caused him to make irrational choices. Throughout his adventure, he refused many useful gifts from people that could have possibly helped him survive, such as food or gear. His desire for independence also lead him to refuse help from any source such as compasses or maps which caused him to be stuck in the wild. There was a time I was assigned a project back in elementary school to make a board game for science and my mom wanted to help me. I decided I would do it by myself and in the end, it turns out making a board game is a little difficult. I finished it but it wasn't amazing.

Summary: In class we read the rest of the book and finished the film.

Reflection: I enjoyed the film and his death made me a little sad. He had such good bonds with people and made such an impact on them but then unfortunately died in Alaska.
