Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response: Back in seventh grade, it was a year after virtual school from the pandemic. The block list on the chrome books, to say the least, were not that well put. Students quickly found unblocked websites to play games during class. I thought it looked fun and I started using these unblocked websites to play games. Don't get me wrong, it definitely was fun to play games during class; however, I fell a little behind on work. It was not by much, but I didn't want to take any chances, so I stopped playing games and started doing my work. My perspective changed slightly after that experience. Sometimes class can be boring and at times I feel like I would rather do other stuff. However, it's still important to do your work.

Summary: The class read the poem "We Real Cool" and worked on a analysis assignment of the different "we" phrases used.

Reflection: Personally, I have never really strived to be "cool" throughout my life, but I have sometimes followed things that looked fun.
