Prompt: In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?
Prompt response: The craziest story I have heard is someone serving 1000 years in prison. Arthur O’Derrell Franklin is someone who was convicted for a multitude of crimes and received a sentence of 1000 years. He would be eligible for parole in 2352, which is crazy. I don't know how people reacted to it but I'm sure people were shocked at the sentence. It reveals that some people can do some nasty stuff, like Arthur O’Derrell Franklin, who committed so many crimes that led to a 1000 year prison sentence.
Summary: We finished reading "A Rose for Emily" and worked on a characterization assignment.
Reflection: The ending of "A Rose for Emily" was shocking with Miss Emily sleeping with a corpse. However, it does show how some people are crazy which leads them to do shocking things.
