Short Film Identity Blog Post.

Prompt Response: The masks reflect the struggle to fit in because everyone in the school are in groups with similar masks while the protagonist in the short film is the only one with a unique mask and does not fit in with the others. The masks connect people with similar masks and this also causes a struggle in discovering who you really are because if you want to fit in then you need to have a similar mask. This means changing in order to fit in with the groups and discarding your true self. One moment that stuck out to me was when the protagonist took off her mask and was seen smiling while walking in the crowd. In Langston Hughe's poem, "I, too" when the speaker was separated from the others, they continued to laugh and grow strong. This ties with that scene because the protagonist was seen smiling even when she did not fit in with the others. The masks we are making in class are also unique and no one mask is identical to another. Showing that you do not need to change yourself in order to fit in and that you need to stay true to yourself.
